Motivation Monday And Happiness

Hello everyone, I just wanted to try out a little something for Monday. I don’t know if I will do this every Monday. That depends on the response, so let’s get started. I think that from time to time, we all need to take some time to check in with ourselves about our happiness. Ask yourself honestly, on YOUR  scale of one to ten, how happy are you really? Don’t use anyone else’s idea of happiness, or their idea of what SHOULD make you happy. Take a moment, or an hour, or a day if you need to.

Now, are you happy? Not just reasonably content, but happy. The funny thing about happiness is that most of us contribute to our happiness or unhappiness. To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, we are about as happy as we choose to be. We often get bogged down in the details of our lives and forget to look at the big picture. That big picture is that we are alive, we have people that love us, and we live in a time where information has never been more available or accessible. Let’s look at those things and be happy. I know that we all have our moments of sadness, and rightly so, but for now, let’s DECIDE to be happy.  I wish you ALL a prosperous, productive, and HAPPY day!


The Essence Of Chuan Fit.

I am sending you this quick message because, well it is Friday and I missed you all. No really, I just wanted to give a quick reminder of what Chuan Fit is. Chuan Fit is Movement, Music and Fun! Chuan Fit is a way for the average person to express themselves physically. I am a Martial Artist through and  through. And while I would LOVE for everyone to be a Martial Artist, that is never going to be reality. Chuan Fit teaches you how to move in such a way that you can enjoy every type of motion in your everyday without pain or discomfort. Siting down, standing up, stairs, crawling and climbing all get a LOT easier if you do Chuan Fit. Do  yourself a favor: Come Chuan Fit  out and  I personally guarantee that your body will thank you for it.

Why Chuan Fit Is For YOU Specifically

I have recently started teaching Chuan Fit in a new location ( Yu’s Martial Arts in Lafayette Ca, come check us out ) and I got the usual battery of questions after the first class. Usually I don’t get certain kinds of questions after the first class, but what can I say, it was an astute group. They told me about the kinds of exercise that they do and  have done previously. Sometimes I think people mention it, as a matter of them wanting me to recognize what they have done, and to let me know that they are no push overs.

I don’t take offense by it. It just gives me an opportunity to thank them for their attendance, and to let them know how Chuan Fit will actually HELP them in their other endeavors. I look at Chuan Fit as catalyst for achieving superior movement, and greater efficiency in the movements that people are used to using in their other kinds of exercise.

Let me give you an example: I have gotten a lot of joggers/runners  and bike riders. I have a ton of respect for this kind of athlete, because it is not something that I have ever excelled in. For this type of exercise, the range of motion is rather limited, but it helps improve speed with the maximum use of stride and minimal lateral movement. Now, while I have a ton of respect for long distance runners and bikers, I have heard from man of them that later on in life, they began to have problems with their hips, even leading up to hip replacement. I PERSONALLY believe ( Don’t quote me on this please ) that long distance running and biking can cause an imbalance of the muscles in that area. Chuan Fit is all about the use of the hip flexors and the strengthening thereof. While it may not be the most helpful in terms of improving a runner/biker stride, it certainly will help you preserve your hips, and lessen the chance of falling in your later years.

I had a couple of students come to me that played tennis. This is one of the sports that can be most benefitted by Chuan Fit practice. Tennis uses a lot of burst speed and lateral motion. Chuan Fit builds some powerful hip flexors and gives its practitioners the ability to turn and spin at the drop of a hat.

As the class was held in a Tae Kwon Do dojang ( school ) there were of course some people who studied Martial Arts. Now, while this should be obvious,  Chuan Fit, using Martial Arts striking as its base, helps Martial Artists in a big way. In a typical Martial Arts class, there is a whole lot of instruction given. In Chuan Fit considering the precise way that I deliver instructions, there is nowhere near the amount of verbal instruction given to the students. What Chuan Fit does most for Martial Artists is give radically improved muscular endurance. For Martial Artists, it is kind of like training camp to music. They get to use Chuan Fit as a method to get in hundreds of punches, kicks, elbows and knees. I am talking about every class. Repetition is the mother of mastery, and Chuan Fit is ALL about the reps.

Now, the motherlode in terms of benefits comes to  those who have NO previous experience in athletics. For them, Chuan Fit movement gold. They do not have to break any bad habits, or learn new ones for that matter. For them, Chuan Fit will build their strength, speed, endurance, agility, and flexibility all in one shot. It also connects the mind and body in a way that those other forms of exercise don’t and can’t.

A Reminder For Us All


I would just like to send out a reminder to be grateful. A lot of times, we complain the morning after a hard workout, about how stiff, and sore we are. We need to remember that there are some people who do not have the use of their limbs,  and are unable to express themselves physically at all. We need to always keep our eyes on the big picture. There are some people who would love to have our soreness. Let’s appreciate our ability, and appreciate those who appreciate us. Don’t mean to get philosophical, but it must be said. Don’t Forget This Fact…EVER

Hey folks,

I wanted to remind you guys of something very basic. I recently took the figurative punch in the mouth because of this same lesson. That lesson is: You are NOT your past. We should not link our identity to past mistakes. One of the things that I want people to know with Chuan Fit is that, even if you have not had the success you wanted in your fitness and wellness journey, today is just another day to try to get it right.

Your past is NOT your identity. We have ALL fallen. Let’s just get up and try again. Have a wonderful day!

Why We MUST Move Forward!

I would like to speak to you about some of the things that I have observed, in Chuan Fit, and in life. I try not to get too philosophical, but something really big hit me recently. I have had the opportunity to read about some people that have had near death experiences. The one thing that almost all of them mentioned was regret. Most of those people spoke about the things that they wished that they had done.

It really made me think. I don’t think that there is ANY poison more potent than regret. There is a saying that “youth is wasted on the young”, and  I tend to agree. That said, I believe that one of the biggest keys to enjoying life is to move, and to physically express oneself. As the founder of Chuan Fit, I can say that more than anything,  I am a disciple of movement. I join you to become the same. There a very few people on planet Earth who do not enjoy life more as a result of constant, enjoyable movement. For some, it is dancing, for some tennis, for others, it is basketball. For me it is Chuan Fit.  I invite you to join me on this path. It is enjoyable, fulfilling and so very good for our physical and mental state. There are a zillion things out there to discourage us. Let’s forget those things for now. Let’s use Chuan Fit to build a movement community, and take the best care of ourselves that we can. Have a WONDERFUL day!
